Common Household Products and Dog Sickness
Did you know that many of your household products can be a major reason for dog sickness? Here are a few examples of products that can cause dog sickness, and some of the symptoms to watch for. Antifreeze is one of the products many people keep around the home. If you do have some stored back under the sink or in the store room, make sure that your dog cannot get to it. The antifreeze will give off an aroma that is enticing to a pet, and the taste will be slightly sweet. It is only after your dog has ingested the antifreeze that the dog sickness will begin. Pesticides that are left in containers that can be easily overturned are also a frequent source of dog sickness. Often in a powder form, your pet may walk through the pesticide, leaving a residue on the paws that can later be transferred to the mouth as the animal licks the pads. Keep your pesticides in a sealed spill-proof container, and in a place where it would be hard to spill them onto the floor. Medications that are great for us humans can result in severe dog sickness. Even an over the counter medication such as ibuprofen can cause cramps and eventually stomach ulcers in dogs. Never leave an open medicine container where your pet can sniff and then sample the contents. The results can be extremely painful for your dog. There are a number of symptoms you can look for when it comes to dog sickness induced by the intake of household products. Your pet may experience a seizure or severe muscle tremors, as if the animal is freezing. A sudden change in your pet's personality may indicate the dog has recently ingested something that is not good. Swelling of a limb or in the face of your dog is also a sign of a problem. Any bleeding, vomiting or blisters in or around the mouth is a sure indication that your pet has been into one of your cleaning products or some other substance around the house. Make sure you get your pet to a veterinarian immediately.
